Questions & answers about wasp nests
Ian asked:
I was working in the garden next to the house when I disturbed a solitary insect which I assume to be a wasp/bee. It was very quick and reacted very aggressively whenever I went close. The following day, and I do not exaggerate, but was stung and then harrassed by this insect which actually followed me some 6 or so yards to may back door and then followed inside. I think it came out of the brickwork, but cannot be certain. Any clues
Paul Sweet replied:
Hi Ian, not much to go on there. Could be many different things. Probably a bumble bee.
Ian replied:
I never saw it, too small and quick. I can rule out the normal bees and wasps,
Deborah asked:
We have spotted what appears to be about 15-20 bees gathering in & around our bedroom window and tiles. We can\'t get a close enough look to see if the are the masonry bees mentioned on you website. They seem to have appeared from no where.
Paul Sweet replied:
Its either mason bees or bumblebees. Bumble bees are black and very fluffy. If it is mason bees, they will disappear in the next couple of weeks anyway. In either case, I would advise that you leave them alone; they will return the favour.
lyn asked:
hi i seem to have a wasp nest in the eaves just above my bedroom window .. but when its late and quiet i caan hear them buzzing around just above my bed .... are they active at night or could some other anial be in my loft aswell....
Paul Sweet replied:
Hi Lyn, if they are quite loud and buzzing, it will be Bumble Bees. Are they black and fluffy? Take a look at the photos on our how to identify wasps page and then compare to what you can see flying outside.
