Questions & answers about wasp nests
kate asked:
HI, just had a wasp nest killed in our loft. When am i able to go outside, iam stuck in the house and am really afraid of them! The nest is located just above our entrance door but of course higher.. Will there be many dead ones on our pavement later and when, or in the loft and we have to clean them up? Thanks!
Paul Sweet replied:
Hi Kate, the pest controller that undertook the job should have advised you on what to expect. It depends on the size of the nest and what he used to treat the nest. We use Ficam D which is dust, and is fast acting and also kills the entire nest, not just the ones that were in the nest at the time of treatment. We always advise our customers to stay away from the area of the nest for at least an hour, sometimes more if it is a big nest. There will be dead wasps on the floor underneath where the nest was, and if you tread on them with bare feet, they can still sting. I hope this helps. Regards Paul
Barbara asked:
Hi Paul still got the wasp will have to treat it my self is there anything you can advise like burning insents or smells they dont like please help. Barbara
Paul Sweet replied:
Hi Barbara, I cannot advise you any further than I already have. Short of coming out to have a look myself, the only suggestion is to call someone out who is local to you who knows what they are talking about. You should be able to find someone close to where you live on my other site; the link is in my previous answer. Regards Paul
clive asked:
We have been keeping an eye on my in-laws place - when we visited today we found about 20-30 dead wasps in the conservatory. There is no sign of a nest anywhere and all the doors, windows etc are closed. What could have caused this? There is no wasp repellent/killer there and they have not had a problem with wasps in the past.
Paul Sweet replied:
Hi Clive, 20-30 is a sufficiently high number to indicate that there is a wasp nest close, perhaps you just haven't found it yet? If they are getting into the conservatory, they will kill themselves against the glass trying to get out, or if they are trapped in there for any length of time, they will dehydrate or starve to death. I would suggest you have a closer look around the vicinity of the conservatory and see if you can find where a nest is, or the entrance to the nest. You will see wasps arriving and leaving from the same place. Regards Paul.
