Questions & answers about wasp nests

Clare Kirby asked:

Thank you for your advice regarding my previous question concerning the wasp nest/s I located in my Pampus grass, the Rentokil powder i purchased seems to have sucessfully dealt with the nest/s. Amazingly i seem to have a further wasp nest in the soil bank of my front garden boarder, in daylight you can see several holes in the bank and the wasps flying in and out. Would you advise the same treatment as i under took with the pampus grass or is there a better course of action? Furthermore am i just unlucky or is it common for wasps to nest in such a close vicinity?

Rhiannon asked:

Hi Paul, I am really hoping you can help me as I am terrified of wasps! We moved into our new house and found it had a wasps nest in the eaves outside. We had it treated by a registered wasp company and all seemed fine (the was no longer activity there). It\'s about 3weeks on and almost everyday for the past week I keep finding single wasps on my landing inside the house. I always find them in the same place and they seem 2be crawling around & lacking energy (not flying). I know that once treated, the nest should die that day so I am scared that maybe they are in the loft or somewhere in the house. Every morning I dread finding more, please help!!! Many thanks in advance for your help, Rhiannon

Nicola asked:

Hi It looks like we have a wasps nest, but not sure exactly where! Wasps are appearing in my son\'s bedroom (usually in the morning), about 3 or 4 of them and always on the net curtain. We don\'t know how they are getting in, the window is closed and we can\'t see any visible holes - the bedroom has just been decorated. It is a \'dormer\' window (is that correct, where the window sticks out?) I have been outside and have seen a few wasps hovering around the tiles and guttering, but can\'t actually see where they are going in. Is it possible to treat a nest where you aren\'t sure of the exact location? My husband has been into the loft and couldn\'t see anything, so where could the nest be? Please help, wasps are my worst nightmare! Thanks.

Paul Sweet replied:

Hi Nicola, there is a nest there! You are best off to call a pest controller who is used to dealing with such situations. Very often when we are called out, the customer cannot see where the entry point is, but we find it straight away and often spot other nests that the customer didn't even know about.

Our fee for treating a Wasp or Hornet nest is a straight forward £65.00. This cost includes all the expenses associated with the treatment, such as callouts, climbing ladders, working in lofts, and any essential treatments. There are no hidden costs, and we want to ensure that you know exactly what you will be paying for our services.

If you've discovered additional nests on your property, we can treat them during the same visit for an extra £15.00 per nest. This offer is only applicable if treated at the time of the original callout. So, if you have multiple nests on your property, call us, and we can discuss a fixed price to handle all the nests in a single visit.

We are certified and fully insured professionals, and all our work comes with a guarantee. Payment is due upon completing the job, and please note that we do not accept bank transfers. Additionally, no value-added tax (VAT) is applied to our charges.

Please ensure that you have correctly identified the species of flying insect causing concern before contacting us. If you are not certain, you can send us a clear photo, and we will be happy to assist in identifying the issue. Alternatively, you can call us, and we will discuss the problem and provide advice.

We strongly advise against using proprietary products you may have purchased to treat the nest, as this action can often lead to disastrous consequences. If you decide to embark upon this often hazardous endeavor, please do not call us to sort out the frequently dangerous aftermath.

Please do not contact us for any issues related to bees, as we do not provide treatment for any bee species.

When you book our services, we will assign you an approximate morning or afternoon time slot. We promise to be there as scheduled and kindly request that you be present at home to ensure a smooth process.

For safety reasons, we recommend keeping children and pets indoors and closing windows and doors during and for several hours after treatment. Please keep in mind that we work weekends, so if you discover a nest in your garden during the weekend (Saturday or Sunday), give us a call, and we will make every effort to respond to your situation as soon as possible.
